Building Confidence, Friendship and Leadership Beyond the Hub

Diverse Youth NI’s Residential Programme is one of the most memorable and transformative parts of our youth work. Our residentials bring together young people from across Belfast and wider Northern Ireland for immersive overnight experiences that combine learning, adventure, personal growth and community-building.

Away from daily pressures, young people have the space to reflect, reconnect, build friendships and step into leadership in a supportive, multicultural environment.

What Our Residentials Are About

Our residentials aim to give young people:

A safe and fun environment away from home

Space to build confidence, independence and self-awareness

Time to strengthen friendships and cross-community connections

Opportunities to learn new skills and challenge themselves

A chance to explore identity, culture, leadership and wellbeing

Youth-led activities that encourage teamwork and positive decision-making

Residentials are a powerful tool in youth work, and for many young people, they are a highlight of their journey with DYNI.

Who Can Participate

Residentials are open to:

Young people aged 11 to 25 involved in DYNI programmes

Participants in YELP, Education Enhancement, Steering Groups and Equality & Diversity programmes

Young people from minority ethnic, newcomer and multicultural backgrounds

Our Approach to Residentials

DYNI residentials are grounded in:

Youth participation – young people help shape activities and have a voice in planning

Inclusivity – cultural and dietary needs are respected, and all young people are welcomed wholeheartedly

Safety and wellbeing – delivered by trained staff with robust safeguarding practices

Cultural competency – understanding the needs of newcomer and minority ethnic young people

Relationship-building – creating meaningful and lasting connections across communities

We work closely with families to ensure young people feel safe, prepared and excited for the experience.

Why Residentials Matter

Young people who attend our residentials often gain:

Increased confidence and independence

Better communication and teamwork skills

Stronger friendships across different cultures and backgrounds

A deeper understanding of identity and belonging

Greater resilience and problem-solving ability

Motivation to take on leadership roles within DYNI

These experiences stay with young people long after they return home.
