A Summer of Belonging, Learning, and Fun
Our Summer Activities Programme creates a safe and vibrant space where young people from minority ethnic and migrant backgrounds can connect, build confidence, and explore new opportunities during the school break. The programme blends creativity, leadership, wellbeing, and cross-community engagement, helping young people feel included and supported throughout the summer months.
Every activity is designed with young people at the centre. We work closely with families, youth organisations, and community partners to ensure the experience is meaningful, culturally inclusive, and accessible to all.
What We Do Over the Summer
Creative and Cultural Workshops
Young people explore identity, heritage, and storytelling through art, music, photography, and digital media. These sessions help them develop new skills while expressing their experiences and creativity in empowering ways.
Outdoor Adventures and Trips
We organise trips to parks, museums, heritage sites, and outdoor activity centres to encourage wellbeing, physical activity, and a sense of adventure. These outings allow young people to build friendships across communities and experience parts of Northern Ireland they may not have seen before.
Leadership and Confidence Building
Short workshops on leadership, public speaking, teamwork, and conflict resolution help young people grow in confidence and develop a stronger sense of agency. These sessions are delivered by our trained facilitators as well as inspiring external partners.
Good Relations and Community Building
Our activities bring young people from different cultural, ethnic, and faith backgrounds together. Through group challenges and dialogue sessions, they learn about diversity, challenge stereotypes, and strengthen relationships across communities.
Wellbeing, Sport, and Mindfulness
We run informal wellbeing workshops, light sport sessions, and mindfulness activities designed to support emotional and mental health. These help young people develop resilience and find healthy ways to cope with stress.
Why Our Summer Programme Matters
The summer break can be isolating for many young people, especially those from newcomer, refugee, or minority backgrounds. Our summer activities provide:
- A sense of routine, stability, and belonging
- A safe space to make new friends
- Access to fun, enriching experiences that families may find difficult to reach
- Opportunities to develop confidence, leadership, and creativity
- Space to talk about identity, culture, and life in Northern Ireland
- Support for emotional wellbeing and community connection
Above all, the programme ensures no young person feels left behind during the summer.
Who Can Join
Our summer activities are open to young people aged 11 to 25 from all backgrounds, with a particular focus on:
- Newcomer, asylum seeker, and refugee communities
- Black and Minority Ethnic youth
- Young people facing social or financial barriers
- Young people seeking safe spaces to connect and build confidence
Participation is free, and all activities are delivered by trained youth workers, facilitators, and volunteers.
How to Get Involved
Parents, youth organisations, and young people can contact our team to find out more about the programme or register interest for next summer. We also welcome partnerships with schools, community groups, and funders who want to help extend opportunities for young people.
