HI-M8 Residential at Corrymeela

Project: Hi-m8

Sponsors: BBC Children in Need

Participants: 30

OVERVIEW

From February 23rd to 25th, 2024, the Hi-M8 project orchestrated a transformative three-day residential event at the serene locale of Corrymeela in Ballycastle. This immersive experience served as a poignant testament to the project’s commitment to fostering holistic well-being and nurturing supportive communities for BAME youth navigating mental health challenges.

Nestled amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Northern Ireland, the residential event offered participants a respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life, providing a tranquil space for reflection, connection, and growth. Against the backdrop of the Hi-M8 mental health awareness campaign, the event unfolded as a tapestry of diverse activities and meaningful interactions, designed to ignite conversations and deepen understanding surrounding mental health within the context of BAME youth experiences.

Throughout the duration of the event, participants engaged in a rich tapestry of interactive sessions, each meticulously curated to promote holistic well-being and foster a sense of community. From invigorating nature walks amidst the lush greenery of Corrymeela’s surroundings to dynamic sports activities that invigorated the body and mind, every aspect of the program was imbued with intentionality and purpose.

Furthermore, the event functioned as a canvas for creative expression and self-discovery. Participants immersed themselves in art and craft sessions, which served as an outlet for personal reflection and emotional catharsis. Through the act of creation, individuals were empowered to explore their inner landscapes, unpacking complex emotions and forging connections with peers on a deeper level.

At the heart of the residential event lay the cultivation of meaningful dialogue and shared experiences surrounding mental health. Guided discussions and reflective sessions provided participants with a safe space to share their stories, articulate their struggles, and offer support to one another. The three-day event created an atmosphere of empathy and comprehension, enabling connection and solidarity among the participants.

The residential event at Corrymeela, Ballycastle, encapsulated the essence of the Hi-M8 project’s mission – to create spaces of healing, belonging, and empowerment for BAME youth navigating mental health challenges. Against the backdrop of Northern Ireland’s stunning natural beauty, participants embarked on a journey of self-discovery and community-building, laying the groundwork for continued growth and resilience in their mental health journey.
